Aroma2Go Review

I love Aromatherapy and Essential Oils.

I also work from home on my laptop (very early in the morning) so when I was given an opportunity to try this amazing USB Diffuser from Aroma2Go I was very excited.

I have used this diffuser plugged into my laptop and in my car USB drive and it worked perfectly.

The diffuser looks like a regular USB drive, however inside is where all the magic happens. The USB diffuser comes with a little cartridge that can be filled with any essential oil you choose. (My favorite is peppermint)

Here you can see my USB Diffuser plugged into my laptop. You can see the red light on the device that indicates that it is working.

In the picture you can see that there is a switch with little bumps next to it. This is the frequency settings. The diffuser does release in a continual stream but works in 13-60 seconds bursts.

Although it is recommended to have the diffuser in the upright position, as you can see from my picture my laptop has the port sideways. I have not had any problem using the diffuser like this.

We had a short vacation last week and drove five hours each way. I put the Aroma2Go in the USB in our car. I had added peppermint essential oil to the diffuser and everyone loved it. My husband reminded me of the fact I hate 'air freshener' in the car. However by the time we got to our destination everyone agreed it was wonderfully refreshing.

The company also sells little adapters so that you can turn any plug outlet into a USB port, or your cigarette lighter in your car into a USB port (if you are not as lucky as I am to have one). You can also buy extra cartridges in case you are like me and change your mind as to what oil you want. I almost can't wait till someone in my house gets a cold so I can diffuse some eucalyptus.

If you want to try one of these for yourself they are priced at $24.99. You can order them here.

Random 5 Friday

Where have the last 6 weeks gone.

1. We took my niece to the airport yesterday - I can't believe she was with us for 6 weeks - Time flies when you are having fun (and moving house).

 2. To cheer everyone up we went over to see my nephew.

Snuggling a baby can be a great help to a new mom. My sister-in-law said it was so nice to be able to catch up on a few jobs...we didn't feel it was a hardship at all. My newest nephew (plus his older siblings) is a delight.

3. This week we took our seadoo out on the lake. It has been two years since we have had the time. Living 15 minutes away from the lake now we have moved is going to be awesome. My sister and her husband joined us with their boat. We had a blast. The pictures are not the best...we were driving very fast.

4.  I found this cute picture of Jam the other day...

5. Just took the kids out for milkshakes at Sonic - got to love "Half Price After 8".

Random 5 Friday

I completely missed last Friday. Well, I completely missed the Random 5 post anyway. My day was absolutely crazy as our furniture was delivered into our new house.

1. My husband and I realized we may be getting old when grabbing a subway this week my daughter said "What's that phone on the wall for?" We realized that she had never seen a payphone before. Shocker :)

2.We took the kids to see a drive-in movie. My niece is visiting from England. I think the girls had the best set-up.

They did too...

 3. Little J has been having great fun with glow sticks.

4.  On our way to the Dentist this week we stopped at an amusement park for a couple of hours. Monday morning and the park was empty. The kids had a blast and it made our trip to the Dentist a lot more fun.

5. We are in the house. My parents were wonderful and let us stay with them for about 3 weeks. We had a blast. Luckily their house is big enough that 6 extra people could move in without even feeling squashed. Living an hour away feels really weird. I know, I know it could be worse, an hour is not far to travel but after 14 years of living around the corner...It's sad.

20 Mule Team Borax

I just have to say I LOVE this product.

20 Mule Team Borax

I add it to my laundry EVERY day. I have also made my old laundry detergent with it. You can see my recipe here.

If I am not using it in my own soap (normally when I get laundry soap really cheap with a coupon) I still add borax to the water. I prefer to start the water running in my machine and then add the borax. I let the machine agitate for a few minutes / seconds before adding my clothes. I have had the best results this way. The powder gets mixed into the water and dissolves nicely.

Check out their promotions page here where you can sign up to receive their newsletter and coupons. (Who doesn't like coupons).

Just in case you have never used Borax here's a few facts.

20 Mule Team Borax is 100% natural mineral from the earth.
Borax is the common name for sodium tetraborate: produced by the perpetual evaporation of seasonal lakes
Absolutely nothing is added. No phosphates, chlorine, or other additive chemicals

Now you can have a chance to win a coupon for a free box of 20 Mule Team Borax.

Dig it Games - Review

Dig-it Games Logo photo dig-it-games-logo_zps61887cb9.png

Jam loves to play computer games. So we were very excited to review Mayan Mysteries a computer game from the company Dig-It Games.

Founded by professional archaeologist and former middle-school teacher Suzi Wilczynski, Dig-It! Games develops educational games that promote creative thinking, independent learning, and cultural understanding. The company has received many awards some of which are;

NAPPA Honors * Tillywig Brain Child Award * National Parenting Center Seal of Approval *Creative Child Magazine Game of the Year * Dr. Toy Best Vacation Product * Life Buzz Award * Toy Man Award of Excellence*HERD Seal of Approval*

Dig-it Games On-line App photo dig-itgames-mayanmysteries_zps7a4409ab.jpeg

From their website:

Players put their puzzle skills to the test as they travel through history and uncover the adventure of Mayan Mysteries! This puzzle-based game combines in-depth study of the fascinating Maya civilization with activities that test reading comprehension, geographical knowledge, spatial reasoning, and science and math skills.  Discover artifacts, decode glyphs, visit ancient Maya cities, explore the Maya calendar, and more in this exciting educational journey through history.

Mayan Mysteries is designed for children 11 years and up (grades 5-9) and costs $21.99 for the online version and $9.99 for the online app. We received a single user license for one year for the online version.

The player helps Team Q solve the mysteries and as you do you can earn achievements there are 15 available.

During the game you also learn a lot about different artifacts and have the opportunity to collect them.

Jam had no problems loading the game or playing it, and since it is online you can access it from any computer with Internet, which makes it very practical. Jam has even played it at the library while I was at story time with Little J.

Although I like the look of this game and feel it is very educational, Jam was not overly impressed. He doesn't like graphic novels at all (never has) and since this game is in graphic novel format it was very off-putting to him. Other than that his only other objection was that I called it a game, there are game like features but it was definitely more educational than game from his point of view, he found it a little too much like school work and so it was definitely not something he chose to do 'out of school hours'.

I know Boo is looking forward to starting it soon, which is an added bonus of the 'start over' button.

Just a warning the mystery is not solved at the end, it is 'part one' in a series, further installments are on the way.

Although this game was not a huge hit with Jam because of the graphic novel layout, check out what other members of the Schoolhouse Review Crew thought by clicking on the graphic below.

Memories of Poems

I found two poems today that I had memorized as a child. As I read them to my four year old, I realized that I still knew them.

This reminded me how important memorization is to our education.

Here are the poems;

Hunter Trials
 By John Betjeman

It's awf'lly bad luck on Diana,
Her ponies have swallowed their bits :
She fished down their throats with a spanner
And frightened them all into fits.

So now she's attempting to borrow.
Do lend her some bits, Mummy, do;
I'll lend her my own for tomorrow,
But today I'll be wanting them too.

Just look at Prunella on Guzzle,
The wizardest pony on earth;
Why doesn't she slacken his muzzle
And tighten the breech in his girth?

I say, Mummy, there's Mrs Geyser
And doesn't she look pretty sick?
I bet it's because Mona Lisa
Was hit on the hock with a brick.

Miss Blewitt says Monica threw it,
But Monica says it was Joan,
And Joan's very thick with Miss Blewitt,
So Monica's sulking alone.

And Margaret failed in her paces,
Her withers got tied in a noose,
So her coronets caught in the traces
And now all her fetlocks are loose.

Oh, it's me now. I'm terribly nervous.
I wonder if Smudges will shy.
She's practically certain to swerve as
Her Pelham is over one eye.

Oh wasn't it naughty of Smudges?
Oh, Mummy, I'm sick with disgust.
She threw me in front of the Judges,
And my silly old collarbone's bust.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
by Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if their is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

How to do add poetry to your homeschool?

Random 5 Friday - on Saturday

We spent all day Friday cleaning our new house (soft-scrub with bleach has been my best friend), it is starting to look awesome. The new carpets are wonderful. The furniture will be delivered next week and we are very excited.

1. It was wonderful to spend July forth with my niece visiting from England. We had a fun time.

2. Little J said "This is the best day EVER and it ends with fireworks.

3. We were having problems lighting our fireworks until Dad saved the day... It worked like a charm.

4. It was a fun LONG tiring day but everyone had a great time. Little J loved passing out the fireworks so one of the adults could light them.

5.

Happy Independence Day
