Lumo Project - Review - FOUR GOSPELS. FOUR FILMS. ONE JESUS STORY. FOR EVERYONE.

FOUR GOSPELS. FOUR FILMS. ONE JESUS STORY. FOR EVERYONE.

I recently had the opportunity to watch a really unique project. The Lumo Project taken straight from The Gospel of John.

A ground breaking, multi-language biblical film resource transforming the way we discover, study and engage with the life of Jesus through the four New Testament Gospels.
The Lumo Project is a ground breaking, multi-language biblical film resource transforming the way we discover, study and engage with the life of Jesus through the four New Testament Gospels: redefining the standard of visual Biblical media. The Lumo Project presents four films – one for each Gospel account – that will revolutionize the way we all experience the story of Jesus and the world of First Century Palestine in which he lived.
I was able to choice between NIV, King James Version, or a Spanish version. I chose King James Version.
This full-length feature film about the life of Jesus takes the actual Gospel text as its script, word for word, unedited. It took five years to make the movie. The production has been critically acclaimed by leading religious scholars as a unique and highly authentic telling of the story of Jesus. The movie is narrated by leading British actor David Harewood (‘Homeland’, ‘Blood Diamond’, ‘Merchant of Venice’).

The scenery and sets of the movie were awesome. The sets were specially constructed and there are lots of authentic villages and countryside of rural Morocco, it definitely transports you to first century Palestine.

My kids were not overly keen on the 'narration' format. They said they would have preferred to watch it as a regular movie. However the narration makes sure the movie sticks very close to the bible format.

Check out the project on social media by the following links or by searching for #JohnOnNetflix

Katie's London Christmas - Book Review

I was sent a copy of Katie's London Christmas  ($16.99)to read with Captain America.

It is written by James Mayhew is a children's author and illustrator whose books include on of our favorites 'Can You See a Little Bear?' In 1994 he received the New York Times Award for one of the best illustrated books of the year for 'The Boy and the Cloth of Dreams'.

Hubby read this Captain America first, he comment to me afterwards was that he loved all of the London sights as he was reading. Of course hubby and I are from England so this book with definitely have a place close to our hearts.

The book starts out with Katie and her brother sleeping at Grandma's house on Christmas Eve. They are awakened by a sneeze and go downstairs to investigate. They walk in the living room to find Father Christmas putting presents under their Christmas Tree. They realize Father Christmas had a cold and offer to help. Father Christmas accepts their offer and they go of on his sleigh. This is the only part that wobbled me a little about the story, so I did explain to Captain that he is to never leave the house with strangers, especially if Mom or Dad doesn't know. Boo heard me and piped up "Yes, even if he looks like Father Christmas!"

Anyway back to the story, Katie and her brother have a great time looking at all the popular tourist sites in London, from Santa's sleigh. They help deliver presents and even end up meeting the corgi's in Buckingham Palace.

After all their adventures they can barely wake up Christmas morning - What surprise do you think Father Christmas left under their Christmas tree - You will have to read it to find out.

Random Five Friday - November 29th 2014

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

1. I had a great Thanksgiving. Last year it was just the five of us. This year although we weren't all together there was at least a few more of us gathered at my parents house.

2. Captain America had his first piano lesson last week and has been doing really well practicing his musical alphabet. He has it down now and really looking forward to his next lesson!

3. We have finished the changes in the basement and the kids new school area is back up and running. I will do a post on it soon. However, it is great to have our space back upstairs. We now have a reading/piano room. It's so nice Captain America keeps his library books in a basket next to the chair. He can often be found curled up on the chair.

4. My husband loves hot turkey sandwiches. In fact I think he likes them almost as much as Thanksgiving dinner.

5. The weather was amazing today. Hubby took the chance to put up our outside Christmas lights. We always put up our tree the first Monday in December. The kids are really excited because the first Monday is also December 1st. Then Christmas can start!

I normally link up with The Pebble Pond but her link isn't up yet so hopefully it will be up soon!

Swim Goggles - GogglX Review

We have been swimming for about 18 months and this we winter starting competing in USA Swimming events. The kids love it and for all three of them it's great exercise. All three kids swim four days a week. Jam and Boo of course swim a lot more than Captain America who is the youngest on the swim team (and has a lot of cute factor).

We always love to try new things and so when I was given the chance to try a new line of goggles I thought it sounded a good opportunity. So we were sent a pair of GoggIX $19.22 (free shipping with Amazon Prime).

When we started swimming we had a certain brand recommended to us and we have been happy with them. However, we recently tried a new kind of goggles for Captain American because of his prescription needs. But we are always willing to try new things.

Jam shouted the loudest and asked him he could try them out at swim practice. It worked out really well as it was time trials last night. Once a month the kids run through all of their races as if they are in a swim meet so the coaches can check their times and see them in race form.

Jam suited up as normal except with his new swimming goggles by GogglX on.

Jam thought the goggles were great. They didn't leak through the whole workout. They were comfortable and he loved the mirrored design. He has decided that they are going to be his go-to goggles for the foreseeable future.

These goggles have great anti-fog technology and the 100% highest grade UV protection cut lenses for maximum eye protection - which will be awesome when our summer outdoor swim season starts. The silicone head strap was really comfortable and easily adjustable. The goggles came with 3 nose pieces. They were sent with the middle size and they fitted him perfectly. However there is a large and small too and they looked really easy to change. So the same goggles should work for adults, kids and youth. The goggles case is awesome too. Jam was really impressed. They also come with a 100% money back guarantee.

This is what the website says about the product;

  • ★ REVOLUTIONIZE GogglX Swimming Goggles have high density polycarbonate lenses which provide strong endurance. Gaskets are made from selected quality elastomer/foam cushion to offer best fitting.
  • ★ SOPHISTICATED STYLE This professional Goggle come with super anti-fog coating on inner lenses and has 100% UV cut lenses for maximum eye protection and it's even great for Fog Swimming! The streamlined frame and stylish bands come in four colors: blue, pink, black/white, and black/silver. Silicone Materials + High Density Polycarbonate Lenses Which Provide Strong Endurance.
  • ★ EASY TO ADJUST HEAD STRAP This swim glass can be adjusted according to the size and shape of your face to make you feel comfortable while swimming.
  • ★ COMES WITH 3 INTERCHANGEABLE NOSE PIECES - Small, Medium, & Large (We put medium on the item) This will ensure best fit on your nose. Whether you are a Beginner or a PRO, you will get the best fit with GogglX Swimming Goggles!
  • ★ THERE IS NO RISK WHATSOEVER WITH OUR 100% MONEY BACK GUARANTEE! If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, simply let us know and you'll get a NO-HASSLE REFUND!
Jam was really impressed with these goggles he says he is going to where them at his next swim meet, and if he's happy I'm happy.

I can Read - Adventure Bible - God's Great Creation - Review

We have been homeschooling for about three years. When my older two children learned to read they were in public school and so I helped but never had to teach them all by myself. Captain America however has been all me, having never gone to public school at all (in fact this year would have seen him in Kindergarten) the buck stops here, so to speak.

I have been collecting level one and two readers. So when I was offered a copy of I Can Read - God's Great Creation. Although this book is a level two, Captain America did an excellent job reading it. I only had to assist him with the hard words.

This books tells the story of the creation. It goes through all the days of creation and ends up with Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit and being cast out from the Garden of Eden.

Captain America really enjoyed the story, it's told in quite simplistic vocabulary, which is suitable for level 2. There are a couple of parts in the story that don't quite fit in with my King James bible translation, but that was easy enough to discuss.

All in all Captain America liked it and gave it two thumbs up!

The Imagination Station #15 Surprise at Yorktown Review

We recently received a copy of Surprise at Yorktown by The Imagination Station. Captain America was really excited to see another on of these books. He really loved the other one we read in the series. I like that they combined a children adventure book with historical facts and information. This time the cousins Beth and Patrick go on an adventure to help George Washington. This couldn't have come at a more perfect time. Captain America is starting to memorize a poem about George Washington. He loves it when he can learn about the same subject in different ways, and a story book is perfect.

Captain America loves that the characters travel through time and help out where ever needed. This little book is full of adventure and excitement.

Definitely got two thumbs up at our house!

Although I read this to Captain America this time round, it will have a place on our bookcase because I will definitely encourage him to read it again by himself in a year or two.

Random Five November 21 2014

It's been a great week. I can't believe it's Thanksgiving next week.

1. Boo turned 12. In our church that means she moves up from the primary (children) to the youth (12-18 year old) It's a big step for her and she's very excited. The girls came around the night before her birthday and put balloons all over our front door.

2. I think I have Christmas organized. Shhhh don't tell the kids.

3. The Review Crew is all over for another year. I have a couple of book reviews that I need to post other than that I am think I am in withdrawals. Roll on December 1st!

4. We normally take the kids out for dinner on their birthday. This year Boo asked if we could take her to the movies instead. I thought that was a great idea - so tonight we are off to the movies! I didn't tell her it actually saves us money. Since I was going to suggest a date night with the hubby to see the same movie.

5. I am sat watching A Knight's Tale I think besides The Princess Bride it is my favorite movie.

The Old Schoolhouse Review Crew Blue Ribbon Awards 2014

2014 Blue Ribbon Awards
I can't believe another review crew year has come to an end. The kids and I have had a fantastic year and had the chance to review some awesome new curriculum and education aids.

Every year the crew votes on what our favorites are. So I wanted to share a couple of our favorite products and then send you over to look at the final results of the vote!

This was our 2nd year on the crew and I know we all felt a lot more comfortable. The products were amazing and of course the crew leadership were too. I can't wait to see what next year brings. However before then here's our favorites!

Our absolute favorite review this year believe it or not is a math curriculum CTC Math. I was given a subscription for all three of my kids. Although Jam at the beginning was a little dubious of trying it, he still raves about it today. All three kids love it, and you can read my review here.  Since using it I have had some friends sign up - and they like it too!

Jam loves ancient history and has continued to use Roman Roads Media. He will continue to use this for the rest of our school year. I loved how Jam took on the High School level course with such enthusiasm that it has ended up being one of our favorites this year! Here's a link to all the reviews, and here is the link to ours.

Of course we love audio books and all loved Under Drake's Flag and Jim Hodges Productions they were both awesome!

So check out all of the different categories and see all of the winners by clicking here! or on the link below!

Random Five Friday - November 14 2014

1. We had an excellent day today. In September a group of local home school Mom's and myself formed a little home school trip group. There are 7 families with kids ranging in age from 13 to well a new baby on the way. Most of us have decided that COOPs are just too much commitment. However field trips are always more fun in groups. So September we went to the State Capital, October a famous graveyard and today a Alpaca Rescue.

2. The Alpaca Rescue we visited was really cool! The kids had a great time running around with all the animals. They have more than Alpaca's but every animal/bird on the property has been rescued.

3. Actually not just the animals have been rescued. I watched their video on YouTube and it tells their story that led them to adoption. So their story starts with rescuing children and themselves before leading onto Animals.

4. We learned SO much about Alpaca's and each of the Alpaca's had such a sad story. The Alpaca's had really cute names. The girls were all names after Gems/Jewels and the boys after Harley's. Jam thought that was cool!

5. You really need to check out their website and learn what they are trying to do. You can click here to learn more about OSA. They have their own webstore all of their products are home grown Alpaca! They also have a sponsorship program $20.00 will cover the cost of sponsoring an Alpaca for a whole year!

My kids came home raving about our trip today. My husband was quite entertained with their stories. It was definitely a perfect day!

See what's happening with some more random five over at the Pebble Pond.

A couple of years ago we went to England to celebrate my husband's Grandma's 100th birthday. I mean really! During our visit we stopped at a ER so I could pee, stopped at a Pub and used my 4 year old as a reason to use their restroom (luckily he didn't argue with me when I said he had to go, not me) and pay - yes pay 50p per person to pay while in a train station in London. I kid you not I could never move back there - just for the lack of bathrooms!

IXL Learning {TOS - REVIEW}

Christmas Book Review

This is my second year on the crew. Last year I didn't apply for the IXL review. When I read all the awesome reviews I was a little jealous. So when I had a chance to apply for it again this year I was super excited. I was given access to the IXL Math and IXL Language Arts program for a year.

The main reason I was put off from signing up to try the program last year is because I thought it was a full math curriculum. I realized while reading the reviews that this wasn't the case. This program is designed to help your child review and practice using skills they have previously learned.

Pricing for family memberships starts at just $9.95/month or $79/year for one subject. Each additional child costs $2/month or $20/year. For more information or to purchase a family membership, Click here, and select your preferred membership option to view more pricing details.

After logging into the program and choosing a username and password I signed each child up for their own account. They were able to choose their own picture for the avatar and a secret word that they used to log in. They loved this, in fact Captain America chose his own 'secret' word - however I insisted that his secret word couldn't be a secret from me 'just in case'.

As I mentioned earlier we were given access for math and language skills. However in grades preK - 1st math is the only option. Language skills doesn't start until grade 2 and goes to 8th grade.

Captain America was my main user. I set him up on the Kindergarten program as we are currently doing 1st grade math together. I work for a few hours in the morning and my goal was to have him use some of this time to work on reviewing the math skills we had already worked on.

He was doing a great job, until Boo accidentally swapped him on to PreK and he suddenly started saying he was really bored. After I sat down with him and look at what he was doing. I noticed the problem straight away and clicked him back over to the Kindergarten section - he was happy again! I don't think it will take him long to finish all the topics Kindergarten. I like that you can swap around the levels and move up and down if needed. Captain America can click on each subject (as you can see below) very easily. The only draw back to this is sometimes he skips all over the place. However, this doesn't really worry me too much, since it's a review program anyway.

Captain America loved that the program would run on his Nexus 7. Although he has his own laptop I don't let him take it down from his docking station, so playing this on his pad gave him the freedom to lounge around on the floor in the sun like a cat. Does anyone else's kids do that - or is it just mine. Using the pad also makes it easier for Captain America to log in. When you open the app it links straight to the secret word sign in page.

We have an android tablet and the Language Arts section is unavailable and the math section only goes up to 8th grade. Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus say 'coming soon'.

When you sign in as a parent you can see at a glace what areas have been completed. If you see the picture below the areas that are darker are the one that Captain America has completed, the lighter ones are areas that he hasn't worked on yet.

There is also a section where you can go to each child's account and look at various reports.

Jam and Boo have both played around on the program. Boo's work schedule gives her a little more free time and she is using both the language arts and the math program. She doesn't like getting things wrong and is really competitive so this type of program works well for her. However as you are coming to the end of a level you go into 'challenge mode' and if you get one wrong it really affects your points. She hates that and so really tries hard. Although this program's main goal is review. I love the fact that if you get a question wrong it gives an excellent explanation so it does teach in a way and can really help build confidence in subject areas where a child may be struggling.

All in all the kids gave this a thumbs up. Captain America hasn't moaned once about using this program and really likes seeing his award sticker chart fill up.

There are so many levels to this program. You really should click on the link below to see what others think!

Agent Ace - Mom Powered Media giveaway event

I moved towns last year and it is a very stressful thing. It's not something I want to do again in a hurry. However there are certain companies that will try and make it easier for you! Check out Agent Ace - and don't forget to enter the giveaway while you are here!

Sponsored by: Agent Ace
Hosted by: Mom Powered Media
Agent Ace is the new way to find the best real estate agent. When you've thought about buying a home, how did you figure out who would help you with that? Did you find someone who you felt you could trust to get you what you wanted from it, whether that was a good price on a new home or the best sale of your old one? A lot of homeowners and potential buyers will just pick a random agent from a list online without a lot of background on what they're best at. It's like throwing a dart at the Yellow pages. With just a little information from you, Agent Ace can match you with the best agent to sell your home or buy a new one.

They're not a service who bases their list on whoever pays the most in your area either, so there's no worry about what goes on behind the scenes. For those of us in the market, Agent Ace a completely free service. Their innovative, patented technology — the Agent Connection Engine (ACE) — makes an unbiased evaluation of every agent who has bought or sold a home just like the one you’re trying to close on based on the information you've provided. They gather and analyze years of past home sales data from ALL the real estate agents in your state, not just a small network. Then they promise to recommend the single best agent for your needs — based on facts.

Agent Ace is free, easy to use, and there’s no obligation to use any of the agents they recommend. You're not locked into anything if you don't find someone you think fits or if maybe you decide you're not ready yet. They make up to 3 agent recommendations for buying and 3 for selling so you can choose the best fit for your needs and your style. Once they identify your best agent, the experienced Agent Specialists will screen them and confirm that they can fully commit to you. They do the initial contact and the sometimes awkward "Hey, can you take a new client right now?" questions for you. Once they’re sure it's a great fit, your recommended agent will give you a call within 24 hours (but usually sooner). It’s as easy as ordering take-out.

If you're even considering getting into the housing market for your dream home, whether to buy or sell, you can check out Agent Ace's amazing system from the comfort of your home (in your pajamas) at AgentAce.com.
Speaking of Dream Homes, Agent Ace wants to help you decorate yours. Two lucky winners are going to receive Crate & Barrel gift cards! The grand prize winner will receive a $250 gift card and a runner up will receive a $100 gift card. The sweepstakes is open to residents of the US through November 24, 2014. Random Five Friday - November 7th 2014

1. I hate computers today. My laptop is currently being rebuilt by my husband. It seemed to get some kind of virus. UGH! I am working on Boo's laptop right now. Very frustrating.

2. I think my husband and I make the BEST pizza. It's a team effort. I make the dough, hubby puts the toppings on and bakes it. We have a couple of well seasoned pizza stones and our oven goes on the highest setting. Our favorite pizza is barbecue chicken, with sweet peppers, onions, bacon, pineapple, and jalapenos (on the adult pizza's). It is delish! We made four two for tonight and two for tomorrow.

3. We went to our local sports center today and played basketball. We spend so much time swimming it made a fun change. Nothing serious just the kids and I playing 'pig',

4. Have you heard of the show Scorpion it's our current favorite. It's about a bunch of eccentric geniuses.

Scorpion (2014) Poster

5. Have a mentioned that I love that my husband can fix computers - I love him too!

5 on the Fifth November 2014

Wow that month went fast!

I can't believe it is the 5th again. I have had a great month with birthdays and Halloween fun. My previous post for today was a reminder of Guy Fawkes and November the 5th. I wouldn't mind having a huge bonfire tonight it's a lot warming (and dryer) than most November 5th celebration I can remember as a child.  One year my husband and I went to Alton Towers for November 5th as they had a special firework event. It was so foggy and rainy we didn't see a single firework. Watching fireworks in July is turning into a more pleasant experience.

5 on the Fifth

I digress and need to get on to my top 5 blog posts for the month...(don't forget to check out the pinterest board)

1. I don't know about you but I am always in a hurry. This month I found a new recipe that I love - in fact hubby loves it too so that's alway good. One hour bread I found this over at La Fuji Mama her website is definitely worth a look. This one hour bread recipe is easy and quick and gets five stars from our house!

2. Food must have been on my mind this month - because my second post is also a food one. My kids have starting USA swimming and my daughter's swim meets start early. In fact we are having to leave the house sometimes at 5:15am. This makes for a very early breakfast. My kids have loved these Nutella Banana Oat Muffins in fact I will be making them again Friday. A long with my homemade pizza - what can I say - we hate packing sandwiches, cold pizza is SO much nicer. The bananas make these 'healthy' right :)

3. I think we need to try and be 'exact'. Sometimes I think sloppiness is accepted more than it should be. I want my children to try their best but also be OK if their best is not perfect - does that make sense? I came across this blog post by To the Moon and Back and really liked the concept!

4.  For the past few years we have been trying to implement the 4 gift rule. I am notorious for saying 'wow that's perfect!' or 'just one more thing'. This year hubby and I have decided that we are are going to do it this year. Then I saw this post from Only Passionate Curiosity about how she sticks to the 4 present rule and keeps her Christmas on a budget!

5. I am always on the look out for new books for my older two to read. Honestly this week at the library I actually said no to a book. I mean really how many times can you read one book. It's not like they read the same book all the time, it's just that they read all the time...and if I'm not ready to suggest a new one quick enough the go back to a favorite. Jam has read Harry Potter nearly 5 times since the 2nd grade. So when I came across this post 10 Living History Books for Teen Girls by So You Call Yourself A Homeschooler. I decided it would give me a few to suggest to Boo at least. Although she has already read some of them. Now I'm looking for a similar list for Jam!

Come back next month for my December picks!

Remember Remember the Fifth of November

 The Fifth of November
    Remember, remember!
    The fifth of November,
    The Gunpowder treason and plot;
    I know of no reason
    Why the Gunpowder treason
    Should ever be forgot!
    Guy Fawkes and his companions
    Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
    All up alive.
    Threescore barrels, laid below,
    To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
    A stick and a stake
    For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
    I'll take two,
    The better for me,
    And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
    Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

Today in Bonfire Night in England and my roots are calling today. If you want to know more about Bonfire night and what happened check out this link for Wikipedia. There are also some excellent videos on Youtube to google. It makes a fun impromto history lesson!

David Nicholson - If He Had Not Come {TOS - REVIEW}

Christmas Book Review

I know it hasn't been Thanksgiving yet, and if you are like me you still have pumpkins on your front porch but it is the perfect time to prepare for Christmas reading times! I was given the opportunity to read and review a cute Christmas book from David Nicholson and the book If He Had Not Come.

My kids love books and the minute this one came through the door Jam and Captain America grabbed it. Luckily my older kids like to read as much as my youngest likes to listen. In fact Jam used Captain America for his reading merit badge for Scouts. Jam had to read to a child for hours so any new books coming into the house were greeted with excitement from both of them.

This book is a really great Christmas story. I don't know about you, but every year I say this year will be different. We are going to focus more on the Savior and less on presents. We have similar plans this year and I think we may pull it off this year! Reading books like this to remind us of how much the Savior has done for us and how different the world would be without his influence.

The story starts with a young boy reading scriptures with his Dad on Christmas Eve. His Father reads John 15:22. Bobby focused on the words "If I had not come". Bobby then has a dream, like in The Christmas Carol where he sees what the world would be like if he hadn't come. There is no Christmas, no holiday decorations, no love and kindness. Bobby wakes up from his bad dream with a stronger resolution to remember the Savior and finds joy in the Christmas present that the world received when little baby Jesus was born into the world.

This is a very cute book, the illustrations are excellent and my kids enjoyed it. The kids will definitely enjoy reading this one again throughout the Christmas season.

As a bonus at the back of the book there is a section of teaching ideas. Every Monday we have a family night where we discuss different topics together. Some of the ideas at the back of the book will be perfect for this.

I know that we could all do with thinking what our life would be like without the knowledge of Jesus and the sacrifice he made for us.

As I child I remember loving the glistening lights of Christmas, but what if we didn't have them. Would we be able to still feel the Christmas spirit. What would we do if everything we 'think' is Christmas disappeared. What if we had no money, or job, or a place to call home. Where would we turn for peace.

It's so important as we prepare for this special season to remember what would our life be like 'If He had Not Come'.

Follow David Nicholson on Facebook.

This book is suitable for all ages. The hard copy book I received costs $18.95.

The Brickmaker's Bride { A Litfuse Publicity Review}

Judith Miller The Brickmaker's Bride

I have recently finished reading The Brickmaker's Bride. It appealed to me because one of the main characters Ewan McKay  is an immigrant from Ireland (albeit a long time ago) I felt that we had something in common. We both moved to the United States seeking a better life for our families. However, that's where most of the circumstances end. Although I liked this book, basically pretty harmless. I could relate to the heroine Laura Woodfield and her love of her father (I think mine is pretty awesome too).

About the book:

Bestselling Author Judith Miller Debuts Historical Series Set in West Virginia
Yearning for a fresh start, Ewan McKay travels with his aunt and uncle from northern Scotland to West Virginia, promising to trade his skills in the clay business for financial assistance from his uncle Hugh. Hugh purchases a brick making operation from a Civil War widow and her daughter, but it's Ewan who gets the business up and running again. Ewan seeks help from Laura, the former owner's daughter, and he feels a connection with her, but she's being courted by another man---a lawyer with far more social clout and money than Ewan. Besides, Ewan has resolved he'll focus on making the brick making operation enough of a success that he can become a partner in the business and be able to afford to bring his sisters over from Scotland.

But when Hugh signs a bad business deal, all Ewan's hard work may come to naught. As his plans begin to crumble, Laura reveals something surprising. She and her mother may have a way to save the brick works, and in turn Ewan may have another shot at winning Laura's heart.
My Thoughts:

I found it difficult to handle the constant pettiness of some of the other characters. I mean really does one person have that many annoying people in their lives! There are really only four nice / sensible characters in the book. The two main characters I mentioned earlier, Laura Woodfield's mother, and a man that comes and saves the day at the end. I understand that they were supposed to be 'annoying and petty', but really the patience shown by some of the characters was saintly...I think I would have bopped a few of the characters way before the end of the book if I could have.

I found it an easy read. I think it took me about 2 or 3 days from cover to cover. (I was spending ALOT of time sat waiting for my kids at the pool - no laundry was left undone due to the reading of this book!) I loved the historical details that went into this story. The mental images of the riverboats and layouts of the cities in the 1860's were very interesting!

Random Five Happy Halloween!

1. I realized that we do a crazy thing here with birthdays.  My kids all have a holiday right along side their birthday.
Jam - New Year
Boo - Thanksgiving
Captain America - Halloween
2. So because of the above fact we have had a crazy fun week. Birthday and Halloween celebrations rolled into one!
3. The kids all slept over at Grandma and Grandpas house Thursday ready to have crazy fun with them on Halloween.  So Hubby and I were alone...I can't remember the last time that happened!
4. I was at home most of the day today by myself! I can't remember when that last happened either. I got a ton of things off my to do list completed...no cleaning - though I did get 2 loads of laundry done.
5. On our way to pick the kids up tonight we went out for dinner. Note to self - its cheaper when you don't take the kids ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Holy Tabbs Preach My Gospel Scripture Indexing System - Review and Giveaway

I have been working on a new scripture indexing system for a couple of months from a really cool company called Holy Tabbs.

I received a kit for my regular size quad and have been very impressed with the system.

What comes in the set:

- Durable vinyl HolyTabbs skin
- 384 adhesive Tabbs for easy Tabbing
- Transparent straight edge to help you easily mark your scriptures
- User guide
- Scripture Library of 495 scriptures, not listed in Preach My Gospel

I really liked this product. I wish I had it a few years ago when I taught seminary and youth Sunday School. However I have been getting a lot of use out of it while preparing lessons for my Young Womens calling.

The system is really easy to set up. I drew little lines down the side of my scriptures - as you can tell mine have seen better days - BUT I don't want to replace them, they have seen me through 6 years of early morning seminary, 4 years of Primary President, 18 months as Youth Sunday School Teacher and are now on 12 months + of Young Womens President. There is a lot of memories and markings in these babies! However brand spanking new scriptures would make this process easier. BUT just think how straight and boring that would be :)

Anyway after sticking in the front sticker containing all the scriptures and drawing your lines (you could just eyeball it too, but I needed all the help I could get with my wonky scriptures. You then mark each scripture according to the chapter in Preach My Gospel.

It took me a long time to do. Not because it's hard but because I work part-time, home-school three kids and am YW President. Plus I didn't want to make any mistakes and I wanted to mark each scripture correctly.

As you can see it looks pretty good - but I am sure you can imagine those little cute dots on a clean set of scriptures. This is just the picture from one side of my scriptures. I now have those cute stickers all the way round linking up with the larger sticker in the front of my scriptures.

So I have a great treat for you. HolyTabbs is willing to give a set of these to one of my readers - Isn't that cool!

Just complete the entry form below and BOOM it might be your lucky day. Or your good give it to someone - I know Jam really wanted this for himself and since he will be starting seminary next year I may have to get another copy just for him!
