Merry Christmas

What a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends.

Remember at this busy time our Savior who is truly the reason for the season. We ended our family Christmas party on Saturday night, after our traditional skits, present giving and games with some wonderful singing. Boo played through every Christmas hymn in our hymn book and we sang and sang.

We sang about peace on earth, the birth of our Savior and what a gift he is to us.

Holiday Baking - Mince Pies

I don't do a lot of baking at Christmas. However, one of my favorite things to make are my traditional mince pies. It's not Christmas until we have them with lots of whipped cream.

I had to search for the mince meat I usually use as my local store doesn't carry it anymore. Luckily I managed to find it within about 50 miles (and as I was passing luckily)

They are so easy to make and taste great with some whipped cream - definately perfect for Christmas.

Amy Grant Tennessee Christmas CD - Giveaway

I love Christmas Music and now that it is December I can play it all day if I want to! However, last weekend I received a new CD in the mail and so I broke my no Christmas music till December 1st rule and grabbed it on my way to the city. Captain loves it when we get new CDs so he was really excited to be in the car for a new one. Plus, it was Christmas music so to him it was a double bonus.

We received the new Amy Grant CD Tennessee Christmas. It's a really nice CD and contains a mixture of classic Christmas songs and ones I haven't heard before. It was very pleasent to listen to it as we drove.  I have played it a couple of times this week. Playing it with the real fire crackling and it really brings that Christmas feeling.

Amy Grant is putting together a cool video for Christmas and has her own hashtag so that she can see your Christmas surprises. Anyone can participate; just upload any videos you have surprising loved ones at Christmas time to social media and use the hashtag #TNChristmasSurprise. Twenty Five Days of Kindness #lighttheworld

Being kind is something I think we all can be better at. However, we all seem to get a little better during the Christmas season.

Today we start our advent calenders. My kids love them and look forward to their little chocolate treat every morning.

What if we looked for ways to help others for the next twenty five days instead. Well if this is something you would like to work on with us then you might find this website a great resource.

“29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:29–30

We always feel the desire to help others this time of year but sometimes we run out of ideas or we think our idea isn't good enough. You can see all the details of our #LighttheWorld campaign online.

I have already seen evidence of this campaign. I have a friend who lives in London, she prepared some special bags to hand out breakfast to the homeless this morning. Others have prepared bags to keep in their car incase they see someone in need. I know others that keep giftcards in their vehicles to hand out to the homeless or needy.

There are so many ways we can serve others. It's important not to worry about whether or not you are doing enough, just do something.

I have so many fun childhood memories helping people. From small things like dropping off a plate of cookies and running away, to delivering a box with a complete Christmas dinner inside and many others. My parents were great examples to me and are still always willing to help anyone in need. My husband and I have found ways to keep this tradition alive and it is important to us.

The main point is not to wait to act until you have thought of the ideal or perfect act of service, but just act.
